Sharon began her art
education in 1979 but soon had to set it aside to raise her four
children. Back in Calgary in 1992, she resumed her art education
by taking classes at the University of Calgary and Red Deer
College and four years as a part-time student at the Alberta
College of Art and Design. She has also attended over 35 workshops
by top Canadian and American instructors.
When Sharon is not painting, she
continues her love of teaching, having taught watercolour classes
to adults for over a decade, and now travels throughout Alberta
giving workshops on her watercolour and mixed media techniques.
Sharon is a signature member of the Alberta Society of Artists as
well as being an associate member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the
Calgary Artists' Society, International Society of Experimental
Artists, Society of Watercolour Artists, and a studio member of the
Burns Visual Arts Society. In 2001, she was thrilled to win the
second prize at the Society of Watercolour Artists 21st
International Exhibition in Texas. Her work is
found at the Artnest Gallery, Heritage Gallery and the Centennial Gallery in
Calgary and on the internet at this website.
Whether in her studio or on
location, Sharon creates works that she hopes will reveal the
Spirit of God within her. The viewer is encouraged to investigate
the multitude of subtle layering and colour effects in the paint
and paper, as well as the layers of meaning in her work. Sharon
creates in all of the water media, often combining them with
collage.
