The best way to understand how to paint a landscape is to be in it! For two days we will practice strategies for analyzing and designing Nature’s own colors and values. We will consider how to compose “all that” onto our small surface, pre-planning and simplifying to work more quickly. Learn some techniques to reinforce the illusion of light and atmosphere in all your landscapes. This workshop is suitable for beginners and intermediate painters in oils and acrylics.
Gain new skills from creating glowing colour to exploring exciting brushwork in this intensive 2-day workshop. Learn how to mix your pigments for accuracy and vibrancy. Discover the power of colour temperature, and learn to layer colours wet-in-wet to create exciting visual vibrations. Develop simple paintings from still life objects. This workshop is suitable for oil and acrylic painters with some experience. Demonstrations will be done in oil.
This two day workshop will develop the student’s eye for abstraction, for the simple shapes of the human form, and to compose pleasing, satisfying paintings from these shapes. Working with a professional model each day and a broad range of materials, students will be encouraged to, and given permission to, PLAY. This workshop is recommended for acrylic painters.
Registration opens at 6 pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

Workshop #2 – March 13 to 14, 2019 at Inglewood Art Supply
Learn how to “paint in the moment” and work with oil and cold wax. Experience how cold wax gives oil paint a stiffer, more buttery body which lends itself in creating texture and depth. Use various tools, such as squeegees, credit cards, palette knives, and brayers to build up layers, and scrape back into your work to reveal underlying imagery in surprising and exciting ways. Focus on exploring the cold wax medium, and learn to loosen up and let chance and serendipity influence your work. Use your “mistakes” to contribute to the interest, depth and sense of history in a piece. Laura will offer plenty of one-on-one instruction, insightful and constructive critique and positive encouragement. Participants are encouraged to work on several pieces at once, to allow a true sense of play and experimentation to pervade.
Registration opens at 6 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
