February 21 to 23, 2020 at Kensington Art Supply
So many elements go into making a good painting and in this workshop we will cover as many as time permits, including composition, value sketches, black and white studies and blocking in with full colour. We will pay particular attention to making a good beginning. The initial block in can have an enormous effect on the progress of that painting; it can flow relatively smoothly or be a struggle all the way through. Deborah will demonstrate several ways to tackle that initial block in, and demonstrate her approach to any problems that arise, offering plenty of help one-on-one. Reference photos will be available but you may bring any that you feel will make good paintings.
Registration opens at 6 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
About Deborah Tilby
Deborah Tilby is a Canadian painter currently living in Victoria BC. She is recognized as one of the top oil and watercolour painters in the country and is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and of the Oil Painters of America. Her work has won numerous international awards, has appeared in artist’s magazines and has been accepted into the prestigious American Masters Show at the Salmagundi Club in New York.
I am a representational painter who works both in the studio and in the field. Most often I am first attracted by the effects of light and shadow, then by subtle colours….and neutrals….and also texture. Old brick, weathered boats, the textures of stone and driftwood; I love all these things. I am passionate about my work; I truly love it and paint every day. Painting is a challenge, but always fascinating and deeply fulfilling.
