Mixed Media Portraits LIVE Online with Caren Ginsberg: Friday, Jun. 11th – Sunday, Jun. 13th

Join us via Zoom for this special three-day workshop that will provide you with the tools and the mindset to bring out your creativity and make art, all while feeling good about your journey. Caren’s methods will enable you to break through common fears, including where and how to get started. Learn about Caren’s personal philosophy around the art she creates, as well as her own process, which will give you the direction and the confidence you need to advance your work.
By the end of this workshop, you will understand Caren’s process and find ways to make it your own. Experimenting with a variety of tools, you will be encouraged to loosen up, to take risks, to embrace mistakes and to become comfortable with your individual style. As well, you will be shown a variety of exercises and ways to get started when facing the empty canvas. Caren’s workshop will provide you with a better understanding of some of the essential visual elements necessary for improving your painting, including mark making, value and colour. Further, understanding the relationship between colours and values, you will improve your colour by mixing varied and harmonious palettes. Through building up layers and integrating special techniques in mixed media portrait painting, you will develop an approach to the blank canvas that will last forever.

I have always been intrigued with people, faces, features and expressions, all so different and yet so extremely powerful. Using multiple layers of vibrant color and liberated brush strokes, I paint portraits that are raw and expressive. In creating these visual narratives I aim to infuse a particular energy and vibrancy that will awaken an awareness of the people who surround us.

As my work has developed, my perspective and execution of stroke and rhythm have become less defined and more fluid.

Creating art, for me, has morphed from being a task of technical skill to an expressive act in itself, allowing me the privilege of transferring my ideas and feelings onto canvas. My hope is that you get to experience some of the cathartic adventure I undertake when painting. Initially I just painted for myself. Then, however, after some cajoling from my loving husband and children I began to show my work and teach classes. And now, I am glad to say, I have students all over the country.
